In 1594, as Deputy Treasurer of Gray's Inn, Francis Bacon was responsible for the dramatic Christmas Revels of 1594-5 :The Prince of Purpoole and the Honourable Order of the Knights of the Helmet,
during which the Shakespeare play, The Comedy of Errors, was first performed essential and integral to the theme of these Christmas Revels.
